![]() ![]() All it does is negate all the atmospheric lighting and make the game easier. It'll never be as good as the old ones was once.ĭoom 3 isn't 'shotguns and demons at breakneck speeds', and taking away the lighting mechanic doesn't change that. Doom 4 has it right except it has the whole "brutal doom" influence crap. Its a way better option on BFG edition than the vanilla version. Well, Doom isn't resident evil for starters, its supposed to be shotguns and demons at breakneck speeds, so I don't understand the whole deal with the flashlight. ![]() And if u change ur mind and want the both flashlight and gun option get the free Duct Tape mod.īFG was a lazy console port and a failed attempt at pleasing "pissed doom fans" They had an excellent but flawed horror game but chose to turn it into a terrible wannabe Doom action shooter with the flashlight-on-gun option on BFG edition. They should have at least made it an option in settings to toggle the original flashlight mode ON/OFF and leave the choice to the player how they want to play the game. So not only have they taken away an entertaining melee weapon for when ammo was low, but they have totally taken away a fundamental aspect of what made this game so memorable as a super scary FPS game from my childhood. As much as people complained about not having a gun with a light on it, the reality is it's what made the game so suspenseful and scary as hell. The flashlight mechanic of forcing you to choose between moving forward into potential danger with either your gun out and limited visibility, or no gun out and only your flashlight to see what's around corners and maybe smack a zombie in the face with when he pops up and scares the fecal matter out of you. But what I remember most was how scary it was. I was much younger and I remember it being so immersive with awesome graphics (lol). ![]()
